INTERNSHIPS AND PLACEMENTS

The educational track offered by the Master’s Degree Programme in Italian Studies includes, alongside other instruction and curricular examinations, 3 academic credits that students must obtain through the completion of a placement activity.

25 hours of activity equal 1 AC. The total number of hours worked must not be lower than 75.

Students will be able to freely choose the institution or organization where they complete their placement, from the list of already active agreements. Where not already active, an agreement may be formed with the host institution according to the rules set out by the University Regulations. Please note that this agreement can be started by the host institution through an online process (link: https://www.unisi.it/aziende/stage-e-tirocini), and the internship can only be started after filing by the institution where the training programme is being carried out.

Activities completed during the placement must be relevant and useful for the educational objectives of the Degree Programme, and they must also be agreed in advance by the student and by both the institution where the placement will be carried out and a faculty member from the relevant degree programme, who will serve as the university supervisor.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE STARTING THE CURRICULAR PLACEMENT

Only for those enrolled through the 2019-2020 cohort year:

  1. Before starting the placement the student must identify the institution or school where they would like to do the placement and submit the placement request for approval by the Education Committee. The request must indicate the objectives that the student intends to achieve by the end of said placement [Download the Placement Request Form].

Once approval from the Education Committee has been received, the student must report directly to office hours with the university supervisor (Prof. Carlo Caruso), in person or remotely (at the Google Meet link on the professor’s university webpage, indicated above). Office hours are on Wednesday from 11-13, unless otherwise indicated and posted on the professor’s university webpage. Prof. Caruso will advise the student about how to contact the placement organization supervisor. Please do not use email for matters concerning placements.

For those enrolled beginning in the 2020-2021 cohort year:

1. Before starting the placement the student must identify the institution or school where they would like to do the placement and personally contact the institution or school to confirm their availability to accept the student as an internet.

2. The student must also have an interview with the faculty supervisor, Prof. Caruso, to establish the arrangements for the placement, in particular:

  • The institution or school where the placement will be done
  • A brief description of the host institution
  • A brief description of the activities that will be carried out

3. After getting a favourable opinion from the faculty supervisor, the host institution will be able to proceed with online activation of the placement plan at https://www.unisi.it/aziende/stage-e-tirocini, at least one week before the start of the placement so that the University can activate the insurance cover.

It is therefore advisable to consider these steps when determining the start time of the placement.

To identify the location of the placement, students will be able to navigate freely by consulting the list of active agreements with the department or ask their faculty supervisor:

Along with their request for activation of the placement, previously approved by the Education Committee and countersigned by the “university” or "placement organization" supervisor, the student must attach:

  3. A short report by the student on the placement activity carried out;
  4. A questionnaire for the final assessment of the placement [Final Assessment Placement Questionnaire]

We recommend attaching everything in a single PDF file.
